[Prepress] Reminders

Listed below are a couple reminders when typesetting/making corrections. If you have any questions or need help please ask Cathy or myself for clarification.

• Page Breaks. Please watch and reconfirm that text goes to the bottom of each pages text box. This is especially critical from Green Dot and on. One correction can throw off an entire manuscript. In the same overview, please make sure no new word breaks or old footnote rules appear. Again, one correction can result in either of these to occur.

• Color in Graphics. These have been going great with the exception of two areas. 1) Watch for any color text under 8 pts. This is the minimum. If colored text is used on plot points or areas where it cannot be increased to 8 pt., it should remain black. 2) Some of the x- and y-axis are being overlooked and left CMYK. Please check these before saving your document.

• Math Spacing. The “Adjust Leading” option is a good new feature under MathTools but needs work. It provides too much space around math, leaving larger than needed gaps between lines of text. Instead, take the paragraph off the grid and increase each lines leading just to the point of no text touching. This will also make it easier to get your items back on the grid within the next paragraph or two. "044 Equation plus space” has also been causing troubles downstream when we need to reflow text. It is better to use "044 Equation” and adjust the space before/after incrementally using the “space before” and “space after” options located in the top tool bar.

• AScript Styles. I think we are mostly through the papers that did not load with these styles. If you happen to come across one when typesetting, it is best to load the appropriate A-styles into your Math Styles and find/replace. Although these styles appear similar, the character spacing is better in the A-styles.
